I have a relationship with a Rolex AD in town. Over the years, I have been fortunate to get a lot of valuable stainless steel models at retail (e.g., Batgirl, Kermit, Black Daytona, Pepsi, multiple DJs). However, now I’m ready to get into other watches and want to sell some of my Rolexes. Should I be worried about the AD finding out that I sold the watch? They have mentioned to me multiple times that they always find out when a customer sells a watch.

Hi All,
Looking at a Breguet 5817. The movement usually has gold paint/lacquer (or whatever the correct word is) inlayed into the engraved information (Breguet name, caliber name, etc...) but it looks like it's worn out. Otherwise the movement looks good to me. I was wondering what this signifies? AI essentially said someone may have used solvents and/or a nasty brush to clean the movement. But I was hoping to get some thoughts.

I’m looking at purchasing this watch through an auction house and would love to get your opinion on value.
What do you think would be a great buy price or realistic wholesale number for this reference?
From my research, the original retail price was around $60,000, and current secondary-market listings seem to range from approximately $38,000 on the low end to over $50,000 for full-set examples.
This particular watch includes the original Certificate of Origin but does not come with the original box.
To be completely honest, I’m looking at this as a potential value opportunity. I think it’s a very overlooked model in the current market, and there may be a chance to buy it well below market value. My thought process is to acquire it at the right price, enjoy it for a period of time, then send it to Patek Philippe for a complete factory service and obtain an Extract from the Archives. After that, I could either sell it privately for a profit or wholesale it to a dealer if the numbers make sense.
I’m curious to hear what others think the true wholesale value is today and what price point would make this an attractive buy.

As the FTW Collective is a “no judgment zone” for the kind of wasteful debauchery over wrist trinkets we all love, let’s hear those stories about the most expensive or otherwise zany/egregious/disgusting watch purchase you’ve made while under the influence.
I’ll start…I once paid retail for a Breguet Classique Calendar at the Breguet Boutique in Las Vegas.
