Curious to hear any insights into year-specific watch quests. Do you do this? Or do you simply focus on watches you’d love to own and the year doesn’t matter?
My focus has shifted from hunting the latest cool releases to securing year-specific watches to mark great moments. It’s one reason why I’m excited to join this group. I’ve enjoyed watching Fed’s content and know he comes across a ton of cool watches across many brands and years.
Goal is 5 watches:
1974 birth year. Hunting a 1675 Pepsi or a Patek but very open-minded on this one.
2004 wedding year. Hunting a specific watch I’ve wanted my entire adult life: Daytona 116520 white dial. Cliche yes, but I just have to have one. I’ve found several opportunities in the $25k range but have been advised that this watch can be found for $20k so the hunt continues!
2006 first born. Secured a 14060 Sub no date, 2-liner. Matches my son’s personality to the letter. My first Rolex and it's perfect, can’t get enough of this watch. Excited to pass it down someday.
2008 second born. Still searching the perfect watch to match his personality. Eyeing a Milgauss but not locked in. Would love to diversify beyond Rolex but still searching for the right watch.
2025 was a huge milestone year and will be something big but in no hurry.
These are all expensive and specific hunts so it does limit me a bit. I’ve been picking up some cool microbrand watches under $2k to help get my fix in the meantime (Farer, Kuoe, Zelos).
