Hello watch community!
When considering buying a piece from watch makers with extremely limited production, that are also “somewhat” new high horology artists. What are some things to consider before placing a large deposit on a watch that will take 12-30 months to complete?
For instance, I’m interested in names such as Aubert & Ramel, S. Gillioz, Dan Royter etc. While these are far from entry level price points. Is there risk of not being able to service or repair these watches down the road? Is there a chance a 80k watch could be worth nothing more than a paperweight down the road when considering everything? Is there a risk of not even getting the watch or my deposit back if something happens to them or the brand during the waiting process?
While I don’t buy watches for investment per se. If someone is going to spend 10-100K+ on something, it’s nice to know my family or potential broke future self that just needs toilet paper to trade for it could get a portion capital back. What are some other considerations one should make before pulling the trigger? I’m I over looking the upsides of owning an exclusive watch I love because I am focused on the down sides? Should I be concerned about these things I’ve mentioned with these individuals? I’m I considering all the possible downsides with these watch makers or any other new independent’s?
I would love to hear more from you all to make sure I’m thinking about as many aspects as possible on the names I've mentioned above specifically, as I feel my love for what they are making may be a little blinding potentially, I also feel I could be over thinking it.
Thank you all in advance!
